There have been many articles published over the last few months on watching the expanding number of UK TV offerings via the Internet. Trouble is that they all work very well when you're in the UK but don't work at all when your abroad.
I have several technically skilled friends and all have wrestled with this problem. The simple answer is that there isn't a simple answer unless you have both technical knowledge and/or access to a UK based server. That is until I came accross a company at www.iportal.me who have the whole thing wrapped up in the most cost effective manner.
No longer free, registration is simple, quick and has you watching UK TV in minutes.
Without boring everyone with the technical bits, all of the UK TV companies are very aware of how to stop viewers outside the UK accessing their services. This is probably for licensing reasons but some try harder than others so simple proxy servers don't work.
VPN (Virtual Private Network) is required to guarantee any reasonable service both for reliaility and speed. There are no reliable free ones so don't bother looking. All require massive band width at the server end or things are very slow at our end, consequently there is a cost.
Don't bother if you're on dial-up as whilst this is great for picking up text only emails, it's rubbish for pictures or video and would cost a fortune even if the quality and/speed was acceptable. At least 2Mb broadband is required, even then it is sometimes necessary to start a programme, then pause it for 5 minutes or so while your local PC buffers the stream. Press play and away it goes, no breaks at all!
